2010 GCSAE Annual Meeting

From "The Daily Miracle" to "The Instant Miracle":
The Marriage of The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.Com

 Michael McIntyre, Plain Dealer

Friday – June 4, 2010 - 11:30 A.M. – 1:30 P.M.

House of Blues Cleveland, 308 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44114

Program Description:  Plan to attend the 2010 GCSAE Annual Meeting for a fun, informative event. It will feature guest speaker Michael McIntyre, Plain Dealer “Tipoff” and “Laugh Track” columnist. His keen sense for humor and human interest has made him a popular writer at the Plain Dealer since coming to the paper 20 years ago. In that time he has seen many changes in the newspaper world, one of the most significant being the growth of on-line news. Illustrated by the advent of Cleveland.com and its integration with the Plain Dealer, Mike will discuss how this has changed the world for newspapers, newspaper writers and the public. Join us at the meeting to hear his fun and informative comments.

This seminar qualifies for 1 CAE and CMP credit.

Speaker bio:  Michael K. McIntyre began working for The Plain Dealer at the age of five, when his circulation-driver dad made him throw newspapers from the open door of his truck on routes that had no paper boy.  Forty years later, McIntyre is still at the Plain Dealer, throwing jabs, cracking jokes and generally trying to keep readers interested with his twice-a-week "Tipoff" column in the Metro section and on Cleveland, com and with his weekly "Laugh Track" column in Friday magazine. McIntyre has penned "Tipoff" since 2002. McIntyre was an award-winning staff writer and essayist for the former Plain Dealer Sunday Magazine and since coming to the Plain Dealer from the Lorain Journal in 1990, he has held numerous reporting positions in the metro and features sections of the newspaper. McIntyre graduated from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor of science degree in journalism. He lives in Rocky River with his wife (and boss) Elizabeth McIntyre, the deputy managing editor of The Plain Dealer, and their son and daughter.
